Education On Negotiating

Negotiating is always a hassle when dealing with a car salesman.  Buying a car always comes with negotiating and making sure you are getting the right price for the car that you want.  Negotiating with a salesman is like a second language to them, and they are always expecting any car buyer to negotiate with them.  All salespeople know that they will have a floor and a ceiling when negotiating with a potential car buyer.  At LUX Auto, we want to make sure that you are educated when you walk into your next dealership to make a deal on your next car.  Here are some tips:

  1. Always do your research and have multiple quotes from other dealerships.  This will allow you to negotiate further when you visit any car dealership.
  2. Be ready to walk away.  Even if the number comes close to what you want, make sure you are ready to walk away.  This helps on the negotiating process when dealers want to match what you are demanding.
  3. Go to dealerships at off hours.  When you go to a dealership during the week, opposed to the weekends, you will be competing with less customers.  This will give you the advantage as dealerships will be wanting to close a deal with you during the week to make sales happen.
  4. Don't be emotional.  When you know what type of car you want, don't show a strong attachment to the car as this will play a disadvantage to you.  Make it seem as if you will take any car, and have them engage negotiate it for you.
  5. Don't focus only on monthly payments.  If you put all your focus on monthly payments, the dealership can extend your term to maximize profit on you.  Focus on the overall price of the car rather than just the monthly payment.

These are some useful tips when walking into a car dealership to negotiate.  If you would like to learn more about negotiating, contact the experts at LUX and they will walk you through the entire process.
